What is a snuffle mat?
Snuffle mats are “interactive enrichment puzzle toys”, which is basically fancy words for a problem-solving game for your dog, which will tire them out mentally, rather than physically. Because mental stimulation for dogs is just as important as physical exercise, and all activities that include sniffing can really tire out your dog, sometimes even more than a run outside!
Do corgis like snuffle mats?
All dogs have different personal preferences, but I personally never met a corgi who didn’t like a snuffle mat!
In fact, it’s so cute to watch a happy corgi sniff for treats from a snuffle mat.
How to use a snuffle mat?
It’s really easy to use a snuffle mat. You simply place it on the floor, and then you sprinkle dry treats into it.
If you want to incorporate a little more training into the activity, you can ask your corgi to stay in place while you set up the snuffle mat. Then once you’re done, you can give your corgi your “release cue” and they’ll be off to sniff for the yummy treats!
Where to get a snuffle mat?
Snuffle mats are often sold locally at markets, or you can buy one online from most retailers. It’s best to start with a smaller snuffle mat and if you and your corgi like it, you can work your way up to a bigger snuffle mat, or even multiple snuffle mats than can be used at the same time!
