There are a few different reasons why your corgi is not listening to you. At first, you want to determine the current life cycle of your corgi.
The life cycle of dogs is the following:
- Puppyhood
- Adolescence
- Adulthood
- Senior
Depending on which life cycle your dog is currently in, there can be different reasons why it might not be listening to you.

ToggleCorgi Puppy Is Not Listening
If your dog is still a puppy, it doesn’t have to listen to you perfectly at this stage.
While it’s important to start obedience training straight away, it’s also important to focus on building your puppy’s confidence at this age.
Here’s what you should do with your corgi puppy:
- Puppy group training (your vet will offer this, or will be able to recommend a good trainer)
- Obedience training
- Private training if required
Corgi Adolescent Not Listening
Your corgi puppy will eventually grow up to become a teenager at around 6 months old. The beginning and end of dog adolescence can vary across different dogs, but many dogs continue to display adolescent characteristics until they’re up to 3 years old.
During this time, it’s possible that your previously perfectly trained corgi puppy will suddenly stop listening to you. The reason behind this is: hormones. Just like with us humans, or very similar at least.
This isn’t unusual and something most dog owners have to deal with. In fact, you might have to start over again with your dog training, and it’s possible that you’ll need to be very patient with your dog.
The sad truth is that most dogs end up in shelters when they’re between 1-2 years old, because a lot of dog owners get too frustrated with adolescent dogs.
However it’s important to understand that your dog won’t be a teenager forever, and with your help they will grow into great adult dogs eventually.
Here’s what you can do if your adolescent corgi stopped listening to you:
- Take a repeat obedience class
- Private training if required
